Very helpful article, and images are great. I was wondering if the images taken hand held ? I have T2i which is w/out IS, so if I take pictures hand held with Ultron 40 on T2i, will I have detailed images?

Thanks,
Ema

Hi Steve,
for an example of wide open bokeh, check out the fish picture above. As far as filters are concerned, this lens can take any 52mm filter. They are screwed in between the dome hood and the lens. The close-up filter screws into the front of the dome hood and shortens the minimum focusing distance. You can see samples above as well.

Dear friend my name is steven, I am planning to get 1 of this lens. I read another review, it mentioned that the bokeh was average at f2. Do you have this experience? for bokeh at F? is the best?
What is a close up lens?
1 of my friends has a leica filter on it, what filter is available for this lens, where can we get it and any filter you used on it?

Hi,
Thanks for a nice review.
I have used the 58mm/1.4 Nokton SLII for 5 month now. I use it with a Nikon D40. I think all Nikon-dslr have focus confirmation with the SL-II serie (little green dot in viewfinder). This focus-help is great when manuel lens is used in smaller dslr´s like the D40.
I will soon go for the 40mm/2 Ultron, because of imagequality and lens-size. CV 40/2 slII in combination with D40, most be the perfect travelkit - at least for me :D

I see the 58mm/1.4 Nokton as a very good choice in nightphoto´s - but under very bright conditions, bokeh can be a bit busy - and here I consider the CV 40mm/2 Ultron as a better choice

It's a great little lens. I had acquired a Nikkor 35mm AF-D and while it is a very good lens, the CV 40 mm Ultron beats the pants off of it! I am now getting ready to publish a review of the new CV 20 mm Color Skopar f/3.5 SL II. Another stellar lens in this series. I was chatting with Stephen Gandy from CameraQuest, and he told me that more CV primes are coming for the SL II line. I can only hope that a fast 85mm will be in that bunch.

Hi, I've just ordered the Ultron 40mm and Nokton 58mm based on several good reviews about them (including yours). I had a chance to test the Ultron at a local camera store and just loved the build quality and size, it really is a class above the cheap dinky 50mm f1.8 Nikon that I have. Just a quick question, when you said the D300 has a focusing aid, do you mean the viewfinder focus indicator dot? I have a D90 which has the dot and I found that when using my 50mm f1.8 Nikon on MF, the dot will also appear with all the other focus points, not just the centre one. This is a great aid in focusing. Can't wait for my lens!
