Elmsford, NY – March 1, 2010 – Mamiya today announced the addition of the new Mamiya DM40 to its lineup of professional large-sensor DSLRs. Featuring a resolution of 40 megapixels with a peak capture rate of .8 seconds per frame and a sustained capture rate of 60 frames per minute, the Mamiya DM40 is the industry’s fastest large-sensor DSLR. The heart of the DM40 system is the new “DF” camera-core technology, developed by Mamiya, featuring two user-selectable shutter systems: leaf or focal plane. In demanding daylight situations, photographers can use predictable high speed flash synchronization to fill-in or overpower even the brightest ambient light on one of three new leaf-shuttered lenses designed by Schneider-Kreuznach and manufactured by Mamiya. The lenses – available in focal lengths of 55mm, 80mm, and 110mm – deliver an effective maximum flash sync speed of up to 1/1600th of a second. For more conventional situations, photographers can choose any one of 15 other world-class Mamiya optics, from 28mm to 300mm APO, designed for use with the cameras’ focal plane shutter system. Also newly announced, the Mamiya DM40 Digital Back will be available for those customers who wish to obtain the latest in high-speed and resolution digital [...]

Hasselblad brings Medium Format DSLR advantages to new generation of photographers with new H4D-40 camera. The announcement of Hasselblad’s H4D line of cameras and True Focus technology heralded the beginning of a new chapter in the history of medium format DSLRs. Now, with the launch of the H4D-40, Hasselblad is announcing its intent to bring the advantages of Medium Format DSLRs to high-end 35mm photographers. Hasselblad, world leading manufacturer of high-end digital camera systems, announced today the launch of a new product, the Hasselblad H4D-40, the most recent addition to the company’s new H4D camera line. The H4D line, built upon Hasselblad’s successful H3D-II series, adds faster capture rates, higher ISO ratings, up to 4 min exposure times, and the new True Focus feature, a further refinement of Hasselblad’s segment leading Auto Focus system that makes accurate near field composing substantially easier for photographic professionals. Hasselblad is targeting the H4D-40, which features a 33×44 mm CCD sensor with 40 million pixels and provides almost twice the capture area of the largest 35mm DSLR sensors, towards high-end 35mm professionals. “Most high-end photographers understand the advantages that a Medium Format system has over smaller formats,” explains Hasselblad CEO Larry Hansen, “but many [...]

Hasselblad confuses me. I signed an NDA (which I am honoring, BTW) that restricts me from discussing their new camera product, the H4D-40. I can say the name because I have two general emails from them stating it, their website states it, and Photo Pro Magazine in the UK has a print ad with the camera name and the launch date. OK, I’m all for product secrecy before launch and everything, but why go through the motions if the company themselves (and their PR firm) blow the NDA? What exactly have you legally bound me to do? Not talk about the product? – You are doing that. Not discuss technical details? – You haven’t sent me any. I can deduce them from other press releases and guess the missing bits. Not show any sample images? – You haven’t sent me a sample camera to shoot with. I can assume that you tapped some of the Hasselblad Masters to showcase the product and they will undoubtedly produce some truly stunning images with it, but if you are going through the motions and expense of an NDA, send those of us who agreed to your terms a camera to test on our [...]

From an email that appeared in my inbox yesterday: Dear Carlos, We are excited to share with you the availability of Leaf Capture Remote – an application that extends Leaf Capture 11 workflow software, transforming an Apple iPhone™, or iPod® Touch into a remote image viewer. The Leaf Capture Remote application allows you to view, zoom and pan hi res Leaf RAW images on an Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. It is the first application to permit real-time, on-set remote viewing of medium format images, enabling instant feedback on any shot. Now, while you are shooting tethered using Leaf Capture 11 software, your clients or a creative director can view the fresh images over a standard Wi-Fi network on an Apple mobile device. Leaf Capture Remote application version 1.0 is free and available now for download from Apple’s iPhone App Store. It supports any Leaf medium format digital system that is also supported by Leaf Capture. Additional information on installation and setup of the Leaf Capture server application is available on the Leaf website. I have downloaded the software and will be reviewing it as soon as I can get a Leaf back and camera in-house (LEAF: hint, hint!)

12/2/2009 – ALPA will introduce soon new handgrips for the ALPA 12 TC (right hand side only). The more simple one (see prototype in rosewood natural) will be available in rosewood natural and synthetic (soft touch). It offers a locking mechanism for back/lens levers and a new handstrap. In addition we are working on a different version with integrated (cable) release and a complete set of also integrated wake-up facilities for the various digital back types as Phase One, Hasselblad, Mamiya et al. It will also offer the locking mechanism, of course. We will inform about availability and pricing as soon as possible. In an earlier release this year, Alpa noted that: The all new CFV-39 is the successor of the Hasselblad CFV-16 digital back for the Hasselblad V system. The sensor used is the proven 39 MP class Bayer pattern sensor from Kodak. The back writes on conventional CF cards (the faster the better, we think), can get used computer independent operated/self contained as it has a battery bay (hurray, no jumble as with the external cabling for a H type back and even the same battery type as for the ImageBank) and features a built in FireWire 800 [...]

That is why there could only be one engine for the first car that bore his name: a V12. It had just one sole purpose – to win races! It is here, in sporting competition, that the Ferrari legend has its roots. Magnificent technology, countless triumphs on all the world’s race tracks and the grandeur of Ferrari sports cars have held enthusiasts spellbound ever since. Are there perhaps any parallels between the Italian sports car manufacturer’s large-format annual calendars and the title “Mito Ferrari”? “I regard my work as a sporting challenge. Consequently, I approach this project as I would a race that I can win by using the media of photography and graphics,” confesses the Stuttgart-based automobile photographer, Günther Raupp (BFF), quite openly. And he certainly knows what he’s talking about: 2010 marks the 26th year in succession that he has been responsible for the photography and graphic design of Ferrari calendars. The WTS lens panels have their mechanism built-in, so there is no need for additional in-between adapters or bellow joints. This will assure a very precise sharpness plane with exact parallel planes of CCD and lens. This also enables the use of Tilt and Swing with relatively short focal lengths. These new tilt-swing panels are additional next to our existing lens panels. Key features of the WTS Lens panel [...]
