It's been a tough year...

Mar 20, 2022

I've been offline for more than a year now. I've had a lot going on in my life. Some good. Some bad. I'm not here to make excuses, just to let everyone who reads this know that I am not dead and I will be trying to ramp things up a bit more.

The Bad

COVID-19 (of course) has deeply affected everyone's life. This year it cost my family the lives of my wife's parents. They passed within two days of each other in separate hospitals with no one around them except the duty nurses. We were not allowed to see them because they were in the COVID ward in spite of the fact that everyone in the family already had COVID at the same time (for some of us, it was the second round with COVID).

A terrible tragedy especially for my wife who is an only child,

Working from home

My wife and I were lucky that our day jobs (we both work in local goverment IT) pivoted quickly to the "new normal" (I hate that term) and were able to have us work from home full-time. The downside is that we were working from home full time. Don't let anyone kid you, you work more working from home in IT than in the office. The lack of social interaction and isolation can lead to "cabin fever" pretty quickly.

The Good

Speaking of Cabins

My wife and I were able to complete and launch our luxury rental cabin near Gatlinburg, TN. It's called Our Black Bear Lodge and has been a labor of love for us for the last four years. It also has gigabit fiber internet service and we can work from there as easily as here at home.

Getting back into photography

Now that the "old normal" is starting to return in force, I will be photographing more and posting more. I have another post already in the pipe.

Stay tuned...
